UNDER LOCKDOWN, WAITING FOR TIME
TYPE : archive, installation
MEDIUMS : photography, film, installation
DATE : 2021
LOCATION : Somwhere between a bed and the internet
SYNOPSIS :
During a period of confinement due to the COVID crisis, I began an ongoing exploration in the form of a multi-disciplinary performative production: an archive. Every day, something was created and posted on my Instagram page. This archive can be discovered by clicking HERE.
From this exploration was born the present project. This project is a series of photographs, a video and an installation.
The installation includes: a single large-format photograph hung on the wall, a film projected in a loop onto the same white wall, projected in part onto the photograph and, on the floor, a mattress with a duvet and a cushion, an unmade bed with white sheets:
CONFINÉE is a work that presents an archive of confinement, an archive created as a narrative: the one of an artist who finds herself in the waves of a vanished creative momentum, the archive of the solitude of confinement, of the lack of perspective, and the writing of the creativity of failure. CONFINÉE tells the story of a wait between the passivity of confinement and the creative action of daily life in difficulty. Boredom merges with creative moments whose material is born from the bowels of creativity, in failure, embarrassed, prevented, hindered by the health crisis. Waiting and the time that strangely follows, in and around the bed, which becomes a refuge within the refuge, a second skin, the shell of boredom, of crumpled lassitude. CONFINÉE recounts an experience of isolation, on the border between reality and fiction. It oscillates between a lived reality and the creation of a narrative archive, a subtle, fine space in constant motion. In this sense, this work traces the (blurred and constantly shifting) contours of a form of autofiction, in which the image is the main subject, the material, the medium. CONFINÉE is a work that highlights the vulnerability and fragility of this solitude, inhabited by a singular link to the Other, through screens and social networks. CONFINÉE relates a particular relationship to the concept of attention, a new attention to oneself in the isolation of confinement, in solitude, a tangible tension in relation to the creative process that takes place, a particular absorption in screens, which writes a virtual relationship to the Other, a strange relationship to the world, in an infinite scroll. CONFINÉE, a period, a cycle, an interval, a break from the real world, accepting, passing the time, meeting the time, absorbing it, it flows, a moment that seems to have no future, in frustration, tomorrow what will it be?
