FLY
TYPE : in situ installation
MEDIUMS : painted textile, sewn and assembled as a flag, installation
DATE : 2022
PLACE : Parc National de la Vanoise FR
SYNOPSIS :
This art piece is a hand painted textile assembled as a flag. Then, the art piece was installed in the mountains of the Vanoise (France). With the wind in the landscape and with altitude, the textile moves and the art piece becomes alive : it makes the bird fly and move. The motion can’t be control as the wind becomes the artist, the wind creates the motion. This in situ installation is a contemplation, a meditation in the mountains.
Traditionally the flag can be associated to human’s ownership over lands, the moon, summits. It shows a form of human achievement, of occupancy perhaps - and most of the time an achievment by men and not women. In my practice I question the concept of human’s ownership over nature, Earth, and the cosmos. This piece reverses this concept of ownership by denouncing human domination ; this flag is not an achievement, it is the opposite of ownership.
